Engage to Empower

Grounded insights for stronger programmes.

About Engage to Empower

Engage to Empower ensures that DAF’s work is not detached from reality. Continuous engagement strengthens our ability to design effective programmes, develop relevant models, and deliver work that is informed by real-world contexts rather than assumptions.

This vertical plays a critical role in maintaining the quality, relevance, and integrity of all DAF initiatives.

Engage to Empower reflects Dignity Academia Foundation’s belief that meaningful social interventions must be rooted in lived realities. We intentionally dedicate approximately 20% of our work to direct engagement with communities and grassroots stakeholders to remain closely connected to the contexts we work in.

This sustained engagement allows us to continuously learn from people’s experiences, challenges, and strengths on the ground. These learnings directly inform DAF’s other verticals — strengthening programme design, refining models, and ensuring that our research, capacity building, and organisational development work remains relevant and responsive.

At its core, Engage to Empower functions as a learning loop:

Engagement is not treated as a one-way activity, but as a continuous process that sharpens understanding and improves outcomes across all our work.

Our Engagement Model

Engage to Empower operates through two complementary formats:

Continuous Engagement Initiatives

Through continuous engagement, DAF designs and supports programmes that address educational, emotional, and social development needs.

Aakar Programme

Aakar is a long-term intervention developed to support children living in Child Care Institutions
through an integrated approach that combines education support, life skills development,
sports-based engagement, aftercare, and staff capacity building. Designed and implemented
by DAF in its first year, the programme demonstrated the value of structured, consistent
engagement. From the second year onwards, implementation was transitioned to Let’s Play,
with the programme framework continuing to be used successfully.

Mindscapes Programme

Mindscapes Programme focuses on life skills education for adolescents through structured, evidence-based sessions grounded in the WHO Life Skills Education framework and aligned with NIMHANS guidelines. Implemented for the last 2 years in partnership with Swadhaar IDWC through sustained engagement across multiple communities, the programme strengthened adolescents’ self-awareness, emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, and decision-making capacities. Insights from this engagement continue to inform DAF’s life skills and adolescent-focused work.

One-Time Engagement Initiatives

DAF also conducts focused, need-based interventions across a range of themes, including:
  • Child rights
  • Love, friendship, and attraction
  • Sexuality education
  • Prevention of child sexual abuse
  • Prevention of child marriage
  • De-addiction
  • Leadership development
  • Parenting
  • Gender sensitisation and awareness
  • Mental health and emotional well-being
  • Emotional regulation and stress management
  • Positive thinking
  • POSH awareness
  • Soft skills such as communication, team building, and self-awareness
